Patrícia Pinheiro de Sousa ‘Only when the cicadas are gone’

Solo show by Patrícia Pinheiro de Sousa from 3 to 19 March, accompanied by the edition of an artist book. On the 2nd March the artist discussed her work in a talk at Auditório Lagoa Henriques, Fine Art Faculty of Lisbon University. ‘Only when the cicadas are gone’ had a talk by Patrícia Pinheiro de Sousa with young participants from São Domingos de Rana and the Fine Art Faculty of Lisbon University, where the artist explored her creative process during a guided visit to the exhibition. The exhibition features several works where storytelling is used as a way to explore the ‘south’ as an economical and political fictional landscape, with text, documents and images addressing issues of dislocation and fragmentation of memory. Patrícia Pinheiro de Sousa works with sound, performance, installation, text and artists’ books. Her work reflects an interest in collective memory mediated according to different political and historical moments. Her work has been presented amongst others at Fundación Marcelino Botín, Culturgest and TENT Rotterdam.
