Tiago Rocha Costa
Tiago Rocha Costa (Évora, 1995) is a visual artist and PhD student at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, with a Master’s degree in Painting from the same faculty (2020) and a degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia from the University of Évora (2016). With a practice situated between painting, sculpture and installation, he has been focusing on issues related to the natural sciences and archaeology, using an interdisciplinary imaginary to question the concept of nature as a domain separate from human existence. In this sense, he is interested in systems of representation and classification of the natural world, the idea of deep time, the challenges associated with coexistence between species or the processes of erosion and sedimentation to which life forms and artefacts are also subject. His solo exhibitions include: ‘Silent, Patient and Voracious’ (MIA Abrantes, 2024); ‘Above Ground’ (Galeria Plato, Évora, 2023); ‘A Pequena Cadeia do Ser’ (BASE, Lisbon, 2023); ‘Fleeting Carpets and Other Symbiotic Objects’ (Galeria Branca of AMAC, Barreiro, 2022). He has taken part in several group exhibitions and had his work honoured at the Mostra Nacional Jovens Criadores (2023) and the Prémio Arte Jovem Fundação Millennium BCP (2022).
